job Description
A Pharmacist is responsible for dispensing prescription medications, providing expert advice on drug usage, and ensuring patient safety through proper medication management. They work in various settings, including community pharmacies, hospitals, research institutions, and pharmaceutical industries. Pharmacists play a key role in public health by conducting health screenings, administering vaccinations, and advising on disease prevention.
Responsibilities:
- Dispense prescription medications accurately while ensuring compliance with legal and safety guidelines.
- Provide professional counseling to patients regarding medication use, dosage, side effects, and potential drug interactions.
- Monitor and assess drug therapies for effectiveness and safety, collaborating with healthcare professionals.
- Conduct health screenings, vaccinations, and public health campaigns within the community or hospital setting.
- Maintain and update patient medication records, ensuring confidentiality and accuracy.
- Advise on over-the-counter (OTC) medications and recommend suitable treatments for minor ailments.
- Ensure pharmacy compliance with all regulations set by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and NHS guidelines.
- Supervise pharmacy technicians and support staff to ensure smooth daily operations.
Requirements:
- MPharm (Master of Pharmacy) degree from an accredited university.
- Successful completion of a pre-registration training year under the guidance of a registered pharmacist.
- General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) registration to practice in the UK.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in dispensing medications.
- Excellent communication skills to provide clear guidance to patients and collaborate with healthcare teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in high-pressure environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Additional certifications in clinical pharmacy, prescribing, or public health (optional but advantageous).
- Experience with pharmacy management software and electronic health records (EHR).
